Exotic Choices for Bonsai

April 30th, 2009

The majority of bonsai artists stick with the more common coniferous, deciduous, or fruit trees when developing their bonsai tree collection.  However, more exotic bonsai varieties are available that permit the bonsai gardener to expand his or her skills.

An excellent alternative to the run-of-the-mill bonsai is Wisteria, a native of China, Korea and Japan.  In the wild, Wisteria can reach 30 feet or more in size.  However, since Wisteria doesn’t conform to any of the normal bonsai styles, forming them into a bonsai can be an interesting challenge.

The Wisteria flowers are both aromatic and beautiful and come in a variety of colors, including blue, purple, pink, and white.  Blossoming in the Spring, they need lots of water with adequate drainage and they do well in partial shade to full sun.  Just before they bloom in the spring, you should provide them with a good amount of fertilizer, and once again in late summer before they shed their leaves.

Another good choice is Orange Jasmine which will provide a delight to the nose and beauty to the eye.  Orange Jasmine bears a bright red fruit and fragrant, white blossoms.

Feed Orange Jasmine every three to four weeks starting in early spring and continuing through mid-autumn.  Only light watering is adequate for most of the year, with a little more required in the hotter summer season.

Because they generally grow better in moderate shade or filtered sun, Orange Jasmine is one of the few bonsai that can, and should be cultivated indoors.

The Mimosa tree, also sometimes known as silk trees due to their long silky filaments, provide another good choice.  They are as fragrant as both of the two alternatives mentioned above and their puffy flowers and lacy foliage are also just as lovely.

The Mimosa’s flowers bloom in late April to early July and moderate water should be given during this period.  However, you should avoid getting water on the flowers because, much like a number of other flowering plants, the flowers will quickly deteriorate when wet.

If you choose to cultivate a Mimosa, it will be one of the larger bonsai in your collection since they have large leaves, grow rapidly, and are difficult to maintain at a very small size.  So be sure to give then adequate room in your display area.

Another non-traditional bonsai is the Desert Rose.  The Desert Rose can turn what would be an ordinary bonsai collection into one full of color and excitement.  It is a native of East Africa and in the wild can grow up to 10 feet tall, producing large, pink, trumpet-bowl flowers.

The Desert Rose should be kept outdoors most of the year as they need ample sunshine and lots of fresh air.  With their very bushy growing habit, they will make a fine design complement to the many traditional bonsai in your collection.

However, the Desert Rose is sensitive to cold, so they should be brought indoors in cold climates or during periods of cold weather as they will not thrive in temperatures below 10C (50F).  With temperatures in the 10C-15C (50F-60F) range, they will lie dormant and healthy and during this period they will require very little water.

You should try your hand at some of these exotic beautiful and fragrant flowering plants to expand your horizon and further develop your bonsai gardening skills. They provide a nice contrast when placed among some of the more standard evergreens, such as, firs, pines, and junipers.  Additionally, as they lose their leaves in the fall and flower in the spring, you’ll have an interesting season-changing display.

Interior Fit Out Guidelines for Effective Companies

April 30th, 2009

Introduction

A huge number of people work in offices of one kind or another. They may be offices in buildings purpose built or attached to a factory or in business premises. For many self employed business people the office is a room in their home converted for that purpose. Solicitors, doctors, estate agents and insurance agents, in fact any business that you can think of, works from some kind of office or another. You might even say 80% of the adult population work in an office. But I wonder how many of those people have any say in what kind of office they have and whether or not it suits their requirements. Mostly when someone new joins a company or firm, they are given a space for their office usually left by the previous incumbent. I suspect that if you asked occupants how they would like their office to be they would find it difficult to tell you.

When you think of the number of hours we spend in an office, at least eight hours per day and sometimes up to sixteen hours if it’s a busy period. Yes people are allowed out for breaks and rest times, but it is an awful lot of your life cooped up in small space. If at least a third of one’s working life is to be spent in an office, then it makes logical sense to ensure the environment is as comfortable, pleasant and as healthy as possible.

So how much thought goes into the planning of workspaces?

Where a building is purpose built such as an office, then the architects I am sure will have created good designs to suit the purpose. However, it has been known for new buildings to be problematic for the people working it them. For instance, synthetic materials used for carpeting can sometimes give off toxic fumes which cause allergies or illness of the staff. Air conditioning that relies on recycled air has the potential to carry bugs that can lay the whole office off at the same time. So there are many factors to consider in creating an office environment to ensure the staff are productive, creative, energised and remain healthy.

Old buildings, originally built for other uses, when converted to office space will have different challenges to resolve. Often old buildings have very high ceilings where the heat rises up so that the inhabitants below are cold yet the heating bills are going through the roof, literally!! How to maximise the space available to provide a comfortable working environment will be a real challenge and this is where often the use of a mezzanine floor and suspended ceilings are valuable.

It is a well known fact for any business that happy workers give better performance and generate more revenue than unhappy workers. The workforce are more motivated, creative, helpful and have less time off work for illness if they are happy in their jobs. I am sure there are statistics available for these details, if you Google them.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the study of workplaces and the equipment used, to achieve the best design for comfort, safety, efficiency, and productivity. Research has been carried out over the last few years at Nottingham University on office space allocation problems.

Workspace planning is fast becoming a specialist industry because of all of the current regulations and legislation. Formerly known, in the UK as the Factories Act and now known as the Health and Safety Executive regulations are in place to ensure that employees have sufficient working space in which to perform their work. This can be a potential minefield including such things as physical space, usable space, corridor spaces, and minimum light and ventilation regulations. If you are about to commence on an office refurbishment project ensure that your interior fit out specialists of conversant with all of these regulations before you engage them to perform your work.

What are the Criteria for a good office environment? We are sentient beings, which mean we respond with feeling and perception as well as intellectually to our surrounding.

Seeing

The first thing to consider when commencing an office refurbishment project is how does it look? The initial impact on us comes from what we see. The decor and arrangement of furniture, the window aspect and lighting are important in our perception of whether or not it is pleasing to the eye. Does the office have all the necessary equipment, computer, phone and sufficient storage for files and books etc? Plants create a sense of balance in the space as long as they are discreetly positioned and don’t make it look cluttered. Plants are oxygen generators and help to refresh the air.

Smell

On entering a new place the first thing we take in is the smell whether we pay attention to it or not. We notice immediately if the air is stuffy or if there is an unpleasant smell such as sweaty bodies. However a pleasant fragrance or no smell at all will be inviting. Baker shops nearly always pump out the fresh smell of baked bread into the street to entice people in to buy the goods. So although we may not be aware that smell plays an important part in our responses, we are still animals and we do use our olfactory senses a great deal more that we realise.

Feel touch

How does the furniture feel? Plastic seats can be very uncomfortable to sit on for a long time. Plastic does not breathe, it draws moisture from the skin so that when you stand up your posterior will be damp and uncomfortable. Padded fabric is warmer than leather for comfort and not as expensive. The desk chair needs to be the correct height for desk and give suitable support, a computer needs to be set correctly to avoid neck and wrist strain of the operator.

The temperature in the environment is best if it’s not too warm and not too cold. When deciding on an office refurbishment plan remember that employees need the temperature to be around twenty degrees.

Too warm and we become sluggish and sleepy, too cold and we become distracted and use up valuable energy keeping warm. Fresh air is also beneficial to stimulate the brain cells.

Sound Hear

What can we hear? Is it noisy or quiet? When I was first starting out in business, I went to visit a local manufacturing company to learn about the way they managed their business. At lunch time I was taken into the executive dining area where there was a waitress service and we had a very civilised lunch. Later I was taken to the works canteen. When we walked in I was hit with a blast of noise such as I had never experienced before. The hall was large with a very high ceiling and nothing to damp down the echo. The result was that everyone ended up shouting to be heard and there was loud music playing as well. I was shocked, not just at the noise level but by the contrast between the executive dining room and the workers canteen. I had come from an company which treated all members of the company the same so there were no executive areas and everyone, high and low mingled together for meals and break times. Guess which company had the better worker relationships and higher output?

Where a company utilises an open plan office then noise levels can be very distracting and one solution is to incorporate ‘White Noise’ which is a low level background noise to interfere with the general office talk going on over the phone or mini meetings. Sometimes quiet relaxing music is introduced as background noise but this is not normal in a business place.

Taste

Well we are not going to go around licking the furniture, but another important consideration is to ensure that a there is an area to enjoy a nice coffee or tea away from the desk throughout the day. So is there a pleasant area for making drinks and preparing snacks, or even lunch facilities alongside the office. I once worked in an office where they had a small kitchen area off the main office for making drinks and snacks and there was always a bowl of fresh fruit for employees, as the company recognising the refreshing effects of fresh fruit.

Workspace planning

So as you can see there are many things that can make the work environment a pleasant place to be. However getting the original layout and size of spaces for the employees is a complex process.

How much space does each individual need to work in? According to the Officewise publication from the Health and Safety Executive in the UK employers must provide a minimum of 11 cubic metres for each person permanently occupying a workplace. However there are all sorts of exceptions and caveats to this rule, such as making sure the space is usable space, and clearly if that space were under the stairs with no windows, or ventilation then it would not be suitable. So it is very important to ensure that your new office fit out adheres to all of the current legislation with regards to workspace laws.

Suspended ceilings can be used by the industrial fit out specialists to make good use of otherwise unusable space which makes the installation of services easier and more less expensive. Electrical supply, air conditioning units, water pipes and telephone cables can all run behind the suspended ceiling making access easy if anything goes wrong and repairs need to be implemented.

Positioning of the electrical and telephone outlet is also important. The computers used in offices today all require their own electrical supply even if they are networked with the system.

Daylight from windows is a requirement for offices. The days of the cupboard office cubbyhole are gone. Light airy spaces make people feel good and doses of sunshine each day lift our spirits. However too much sunshine will overheat an office so the use of vertical blinds is recommended to deflect the rays of the sun without reducing too much the level of illumination.

Costs

To save on office space costs some industrial fit our specialists have come up with the idea that instead of having a board rooms for meetings they have their meeting standing up around a special tall coffee table. This reduces the amount of time spent in meetings and the space is reusable for the lunches. Other schemes encourage employees to work from home for part of a week and utilise a system of desk sharing or moveable desks.

Reconfigurable spaces

Another way of economising on the cost of office space is by careful rearrangement of the existing floor area. There may be dead areas which could be released and turned into useable space. The installation of new interior partition walls can rearrange the existing space to create a pleasanter working environment. Sometimes working in an open plan office is beneficial for communication between staff, other times it is a distraction and prevents efficiency. So having the option of both open space and separate offices provides the full range of options which can be easily introduced with new partition walls.

For example one of my clients, took over a set of offices and had various walls moved, so instead of it having two small offices, one without a window, they created one large office for the MD and a really good sized store room which they needed for long term storage of customer files. They then took out another divider and made a good size open plan office space and rearranged another wall to create a board come conference room. Also access to the little kitchen was changed to be more convenient. The choice of subtle colours on the walls and new vertical blinds caused the whole suite of rooms to be transformed into a pleasant and airy working area. Where there is plenty of ceiling height the introduction of a Mezzanine floor generates valuable areas perhaps for storage, private meeting rooms or extra offices.

Other considerations in workspace planning, is the situation of facilities such as kitchen, toilets, relaxation areas and outside space if available. Sometimes the introduction of a simple partition can create a relaxation/dining area without losing too much of the work area.

All Health and Safety regulations are paramount they have to be adhered to in the workplace and must be incorporated into any plan along with full fire regulations.

Conclusion

Many firms may feel that upgrading the facilities is a ‘nice to have’ idea and the reality is that it usually comes at the bottom of the list on money allocation. However this is erroneous thinking; office refurbishment is never a waste of time or money. Creating a pleasant office environment by upgrading worn out or old fashioned surroundings and furnishings will make a big difference to the working life of the employees. Improved working conditions may be only part of the picture in achieving real job satisfaction, but it is a good start in the right direction. It also says a lot about what the senior people in the organisation think about their employees. If they ensure that their staff are given the necessary equipment and facilities to do their job effectively then the employees will give better service and can be more efficient and there will be a better working environment all around.

How to subscribe to journals quickly on the Internet

April 30th, 2009

Subscribing to a journal is a great way to get your favorite magazine on a regular basis. Nowadays it is possible to buy newspapers and periodicals online. Doing so will help the customer to get their periodical right after it has been published. If you are interested in German newspapers and magazines, the following site reviews some important online vendors of magazine subscriptions: Zeitschrift Wohnidee kaufen

What are the advantages of subscribing to your favorite journal instead of buying it each time it is published, and what are some special rules for buying German magazine subscriptions?

A periodical subscription without minimum duration can be used as a present itself. If you have chosen the wrong magazine and the presentee does not like the specific journal you can cancel the subscription or switch over to another one. The subscriptions normally come with some very nice gifts. You can get valuable benefits like money, gift vouchers or electronic devices. These benefits are often worth several months of the subscription rate. There are companies who offer subscriptions without minimum duration. These can be cancelled at any time or can be switched over to another journal title. However these non minimum duration subscriptions do not come with valuable benefits.

Most online sellers of magazines offer special gift subscriptions. These are a very good idea for everybody who is looking for a nice birthday or wedding present. It is important to know that the bonuses coming with a new subscription normally cannot be taken by the new subscribers themselves but by the person who recommended the new subscriber. So it is useful to order the new subscription together with a friend or family member. One plays the role of the new customer and the other one gets the bonus. You can simply choose your favorite periodical (for example this one: Zeitschrift Auto Zeitung kaufen) and buy it online in “no time”. Virtually any newspaper or journal can be bought online. So everybody should be able to find their favorite one quickly and easily.

Significance of Credit History

April 29th, 2009

Do you have a credit card? Do you purchase monthly and pay them on time? Well, that begins your credit history. Credit history is important. From your credit history, the company will know if you are a good payer and have the ability to pay your purchases.

If you have a good credit score, you will acquire more benefits and less interest rate. It does not pay to have an average credit score anymore. You can find out what your score is with an absolutely free credit report.

Establishing a good credit score is essential especially on the economic situation now. We don’t know how far we can go with the company we are working. Somehow, we can easily apply for a loan if we have a good credit score. We must set up our mind and be disciplined always in spending money.

Others use money to build a business or investment that will grow profitably. This ensures you to become debt free. Many people lend money for business. That is a good point. Your built good credit history can provide you money for your business that will enable you to change your lifestyle abundantly.

On the other hand, if you have bad credit history, it will be harder for you to get approved by lending companies. Many financial service companies count on your credit card history. This will affect your application for a loan if you have a bad credit score. Speaking of which, when was the last time you got your free credit scores? You should check them every six months.

If for instance you haven’t acquired any credit card, there is no way companies can see your credit standings. They will less likely to know if you are a credit risk or safe to lend to. Need to acquire first a minor card which is normally come from stores or even avail of television loan first. Just make sure to pay on a timely manner. By these means, you can now avail of the major credit cards provided also that you have documents concerning the capacity to pay or might as well apply on credit rating agency on building your credit score sufficiently.

Forex Pips Leaders

April 29th, 2009

What is a pip and what role does it play in the forex market? Charts that are used for trading the forex usually clearly reflect the various price levels of a currency. Generally speaking, as to certain major currency pairs such as the EUR/USD (Euro/U.S.Dollar), if a trader commits one standard lot (equal to 100,000 units of the currency traded) to the trade, a movement of one pip in the trader’s favor will yield a profit of $10.

The off-exchange retail foreign currency market, also known as the “Forex” or “FX” market, is the largest financial and investment market in the world. But what is it, exactly? Forex investors employ various analytical methods (both fundamental and technical) in an attempt to predict price movement. Thus, becoming well versed in predicting these movements allows investors to profit from well-timed transactions. In our example with the help of this fap turbo review we shall assume that traders looking at a short-term charts at a that gives them a sell signal at 1.3520 in the EURUSD. The trader feels nothing can grab a quick five to profit so they place their profit target order at 1.3515. A PIP, which in financing stands for “percentage in point,” in forex trading is the smallest increment of value change in any currency pair. It is generally the fourth decimal place.

For most, but not all, currencies a pip is 0.0001 or 0.01%. So, when a currency moves from a price of 1.7800 to 1.7805 it is said to move 5 pips. In this case the situation is simple because a pip will always have a value of $10. So, if you are trading GBP/USD and the market moves in your favor by 5 pips you will make a profit of $50. Let’s see this in action. Now let’s look at the situation when the US Dollar is the base currency and consider a quote of USD/GBP = 0.5170. Here 1 US Dollar is worth 0.5170 UK Pounds and 100,000 US Dollars are worth 517,000 UK Pounds.

On the other hand, if the price goes up to 1.2007/1.2010 and you are quoted 1.2009/1.2010, you may decide to exit. But you get filled at 1.2007, the real price, instead of 1.2009.

Three Tips for Home Organization for Busy Families

April 28th, 2009

As a mom, I know just how important home organization is for families.  If our house wasn’t organized, I know life would be so much more stressful and chaotic.  We are a busy society, busy with school, work, sports, hobbies, volunteering-you name it and someone is doing it.  Home organization is the key to keeping it together.

Here are three tips that work for our home to get you started:

Home Organization Tip # 1-The Calendar

The calendar is key; I would be lost without my calendar.  It’s important to use only one calendar.  If you use more than one, you risk forgetting to transfer an event to one of them and missing something important.  It doesn’t matter what you use-a day planner, a computer calendar or a PDA, just use one and use it consistently for all events big and small.

Home Organization Tip # 2-Prepare the Night Before

There’s nothing worse than trying to get the kids off to school and having someone realize they can’t find something they have to have that day.  Make sure you check the calendar the night before in case anything you are doing the next day requires preparation.  Then have your kids get backpacks loaded for the next day as well as make lunches.  That’s when you will catch that form that needs to be signed or that field trip check that needs to be written.

Home Organization
Tip # 3-Help Kids Succeed With Homework

Make sure your kids have everything they need to get homework done easily.  Create a mobile caddy stocked with supplies such as glue, pens, pencils, ruler, scissors, crayons, etc.  Help kids decide where they are comfortable working.  For some kids it’s on the floor, for others at the kitchen table, some kids may prefer to be alone working quietly in their room.  Be sure to give your kids a stacker or letter tray where they only place homework so they know right where to go when it’s time to work on it.

Follow these three tips to help you organize your busy family!

I need to find a website where I can do free background checks on individuals?

April 28th, 2009

Background checks are only as accurate as the criminal records. For example if the criminal court records in a county contain inaccurate or incomplete information on an individual, then the information that you receive on that individual will also be inaccurate. Free background checks conducted by Personnel Profiles have been helping companies make safer hiring decisions for over a decade. You can depend on the information we provide to you because every manually-searched background report is hand inspected by one of our staff’s licensed private investigators for accuracy, integrity and compliance with Federal, state and industry screening standards.

Employment background checks, employee screening and pre-employment background checks have become one of the best ways for employers to avoid exposure. Pre-employment screening services from ERS can protect your company or agency from liability damages and a negligent hiring suit. Employers who actively screen their candidates before hiring also face less liability in the event of a workplace accident or crime. Pre-employment screening is a primary way of eliminating or minimizing negligent hiring liability. Employees have a right to privacy in certain areas, a right they can enforce by suing you. Therefore, it’s important to know what’s permitted when following up on potential employee’s background and work history.

Applicants are asked to explain any “yes” answers. Similar questions were added this year to The Common Application, a form accepted by 298 colleges and universities. Applicants who initially may not meet the eligibility requirements can take advantage of a robust redress program without losing their HME in the process. TSA rules give states the flexibility to extend HMEs for drivers whose background assessments are still pending, providing applicants the opportunity to continue to work should they request an appeal or waiver.

Free criminal background check for employment screening, tenant screening, landlords, & personal criminal records screening for individuals & roommates. Quick, reliable, & secure access to criminal records. Criminal or negligent actions by employees are one of the greatest risks to your business. A smart business protects itself from costly lawsuits and damaged reputation by pre-screening employees.

Employers may investigate past employment to verify position and salary information. More intensive checks can involve interviews with anybody that knew or previously knew the applicant–such as teachers, friends, coworkers, and family members; however, extensive heresay investigations in background checks can expose companies to lawsuits. Employment background checks can be as simple or as thorough as your business needs dictate. The internet is a good provider of employment background check and drug testing services. Our screening services have never been more affordable.

Tissa Godavitarne and GDI is a Win Win Combination

April 28th, 2009

You have probably heard or Tissa Godavitarne and his Affiliatize Program and may be wondering if this is a legitimate program to start a business with. I know that I had the same thoughts about his program as well.

I have been in and out of different online businesses for the last three years and have grown weary of most of them. When I stumbled across this one through a recommendation of a friend I thought it sounded too good to be true. So I started slowly and found out it is as good as the promises say it is.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money and time to make this program work; in fact, Tissa Godavitarne will set you up for free and give you a month of advertising without cost just to see the potential in making money. The only thing you would have to provide is a domain name and a hosting account. Of course with Tissa’s Afffiliatize Program you have been given three ways you can choose. Either to put your web page on your own existing hosting account or pay for a hosting account that he provides you with and the third choose is the GDI plan.

Another great money making potential is in having an account with GDI [Global Domains International] which after the free trial is ten dollars a month that won’t break the bank. For the ten dollars a month you receive free hosting and a free domain name. Take a look at what your potential could be with this plan like if you introduce a couple of new recruits then your hosting and domain name are free. Of course, there is a lot more you can achieve with GDI as Tissa has but that is not the scope of this short post.

No matter how you look at it Tissa Godavitarne and GDI is a win win situation for you and your future business.
