10 reasons Tayside police are using 03 numbers

10 reasons why Tayside Police has chosen 03 numbers

You may have seen in the news that Tayside Police has become the first force in Scotland to use an 03 non-emergency telephone number: 0300 111 2222.

The force follows in the footsteps of many English constabularies that are now using 03 numbers, like the Metropolitan Police Service, Staffordshire Police and West Mercia Police.

Superintendent Hamish Macpherson, Head of Tayside Police’s Force Communications Centre, recently said: “I am delighted to announce the launch of the new non-emergency number in Tayside. I personally have attended Community Meetings where concern has been shown regarding how memorable the 0845 number was. Tayside Police was also concerned that calling an ‘08′ number from a mobile phone may add a barrier to the public calling the police. This new number overcomes all these issues.”

So why are 03 numbers becoming so popular in the public sector?

Here are 10 reasons:

1. They meet the needs of the public as they cost the same to call as 01/02 numbers - even from a mobile (research by one police force found that 75% of all their incoming calls are from mobiles).

2. There is an extensive range of easy to remember 03 numbers available that can complement the service (e.g. 0300 999 9333).

3. The public trust 0300 numbers as they are exclusively for public sector organisations.

4. Organisations can deal with callers more efficiently, gain valuable information about their specific 03 number (such as the fact in point 1) and ensure all calls are answered by the right person, first time.

5. It’s possible to record calls to 03 numbers.

6. 03 numbers can easily move with the organisation if it relocates.

7. Organisations can control where they receive their calls, by rerouting their 03 number to any UK landline or even a mobile phone easily via the web/phone.

8. It’s possible to see the geographic location of callers and the busy periods of the organisation using online call statistics packages.

9. Callers can be queued, meaning that all important calls will be answered.

10. They can often be inexpensive to run if you seek out the provider with the most competitive offering in the market.

So, the popularity of 03 numbers continues to escalate throughout the United Kingdom.

Alongside the ever-increasing list of police forces now opting for 03 - The BBC, Oxfam and the Department of Health are also using the new numbers.

Public bodies and charities are choosing 0300 numbers - which are exclusively for them to use, whilst businesses are using 0333 numbers.

It seems that it won’t be long before everyone has someone with an 03 telephone number on speed-dial…

Questech Sandgate and Dorset Collection

March 29th, 2009

Leading backsplash tile supplier My Tile Backsplash is pleased to announce the addition of both the Sandgate and Dorset Collection from Questech to there vast selection of backsplash material.

The Sandgate and Dorset Collection offers an array of decorative accents in both a natural stone and a metal look. Each Series has three different categories within each of the Sandgate and Dorset lines.

Questech Metals - Questech invented a breakthrough technology, a process for casting beautiful metal objects at a fraction of the weight and cost of solid metals. This discovery led to the launch of the industry’s first mass produced metal tiles, creating an important new category in the tile and home improvement markets. The difference between the two series of Sandgate and Dorset Collections is the style offerings between them. The colors that are offered are the same, just different designs between the two series.

Questech Cast Stone - Questech broke the mold again, with their revolutionary product of the cast stone series. These decorative pieces have a resemblance of natural stone with the look of travertine and marble. The product offering in this category is phenomenal. The selection includes everything from a 2″ x 2″ to a large 16″ x 24″ mural. Again, the color offering between the Sandgate and the Dorset collection are the same, just the different designs associated with each series.

Questech Natural Stone - This includes a factory-sealed tumbled marble collection offered in both Castle Wheat and Casa Emperador. Tumbled marble tiles have better wear properties, warmer feels, softer appearance and a matte finish. Tumbled Marble with Q-Seal provides a built-in anti-bacterial protection. Ultra-Fresh inhibits the growth of stain and odor causing mold and mildew. It is factory applied and will not lose its effectiveness over time. The added anti-bacterial protection makes the tiles ideal for showers, tub surrounds and kitchen backsplashes. They will never be the worry of having to reseal the tiles or worry about special stone cleaners.

As with all the products from Questech, each and every one of the products is sealed with their Q-Seal. The fear of sealing or water-damaged products does not exist with the Questech product line.

Are Cheap Color Contact Lenses Worth Buying?

March 29th, 2009

Although they may not like the tone of it at first, cheap colored contacts lenses may very well be elegant to a big audience. As the name suggests, cheap contacts do not cost a lot of money. While some types of contacts may be very costly, there are other brands that don’t cost a lot. When you compare them, there really is not that many differences.

Many contact lens users feel that the less expensive brands of contacts are reliable, dependable, comfortable, and above everything else - light on the wallet. Even though cheap lenses are praised by some - others don’t look at them that way. Some feel that cheaper lenses should be avoided at all cost, for the fear that they may harm vision or not offer the same quality that the more expensive brands of contacts offer.

Those who don’t wear contacts but have interest in them, may find a cheap pair of contacts to be the ideal way to try them out. If you purchase a cheap pair of contacts it won’t cost you a lot of money, yet it will give you the satisfaction in knowing whether or not contacts are for you. Unlike glasses, contact lenses won’t break or dangle from your face. Contacts are a great choice for many, for the simple reason that they feel natural - almost like a pair of eyes that you never knew you had.

A thought to keep in mind, is the fact that cheap color contacts aren’t the best of quality. As the name states, these types of lens are cheap in price - and also quality. Usually, they are the way to go for individuals who cannot afford the quality brands. Even though the quality is not the best in the world, those who wear cheap contacts usually do not have any complaints.

Although some people will view cheap non prescription color contacts as the ideal purchase, others will view them as a waste of money. This is all about preference, and what you desire is the top choice for you. If you have the money to spare, you would be better off getting a pair of brand name contacts. However, if you are on a fixed budget, cheap contact lenses would do you good - at least until you get the money to purchase one of the better brands.

Cheap contacts can be found online, or at your local Optomotrist office. They will not set you back a lot of money, yet they will provide you the vision you need. Contacts are a terrific alternative to glasses, especially for those who require glasses but dislike wearing them. Contact lenses are what they are - the best way to get the vision you need without putting on glasses. Cheap contacts are an ideal solution to glasses - at a price people can afford.

Several Ways to a Greener Office

March 29th, 2009

As concerns over global warming increase and people are becoming more environmentally aware, many organisations are introducing greener policies and procedures into their offices as part of their corporate social responsibility remit. HBOS, Co-operative Financial Services and the National Magazine Company are amongst the organisations that have gone green and all feature in the top 10 of the Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards 2008. Going green doesn’t have to involve spending more money and in the majority of cases companies will actually save some cash. With this in mind, here are 10 simple steps to a greener office:

1. Ensure that all electrical equipment and appliances are switched off overnight and at weekends. This includes computers, printers, scanners, photocopiers, kettles etc.

2. Use a Fax to Email service instead of a traditional fax machine.Fax to Email works in conjunction with non-geographic telephone numbers (0845 numbers, 03 numbers etc.) This allows you to receive all your faxes to a nominated email account. This way you will not waste paper as you can print only the faxes you need and you will save money on inks and maintenance costs.

3. Buy recycled paper.

4. Reduce hardcopies of documents wherever possible.

5. Instead of throwing away misprints or unneeded printed pages, use them as rough paper around the office.

6. Buy an office plant - a green plant will produce more oxygen for the office.

7. Use window blinds to prevent heat leakage in winter and keep you cool in the summer.

8. Have separate recycling bins for bottles and cans.

9. Encourage employees to car share or, even better, promote a cycle to work scheme. UK Government figures show that 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions are a result of road transport.

10. Offer statements online. Save paper by giving your customers the option of viewing their statements online - this will also save money.

As you can see, many of the above suggestions are minor changes but they can have a major impact on the environment, staff morale and on budgets, which makes going green the new black.

The Advantages of Quality Signage

March 28th, 2009

The majority of companies trade in a highly competitive environment. Therefore, in order to succeed, a business must be able to communicate with their clients about the services or products that they provide. Signage comes in various shapes and forms, and commercial signs are there to identify or attract business for the store, building or vehicle displaying the sign.

Nothing compliments your company image more than high quality signage outside your premises. With everyone attempting to compete for new customers then it is crucial that you stand out from everyone else. Shop signage, window graphics, vehicle signs, van wraps or internal signs should be designed and produced to suit the individual requirements of each business.

Internal signs are often overlooked when people assess their signage requirements. Whilst concentrating on external signs to create the right image to attract customers, they overlook the advantages that internal signage has to offer. Whether used for advertising, displays, directions or general information then internal signage can help you and your clients find what they need, when they need it.

Vehicle graphics and wraps are a cost effective form of advertising with a potentially large return. Any company that does not utilise its vehicles is missing out on a superb way to reach new customers. An advert in any online or telephone directory only reaches the people that are specifically searching for your product, but a company vehicle is seen by hundreds and possibly thousands of people every single day. With more vehicles being supplied on lease contracts, just think how many potential new customers would see your ‘advert’ over the course of a year.

Promotional signage including A-boards, swing signs, window graphics and floor graphics are also a very effective to get your business noticed. This type of signage is ideal in situations when trying to attract passing trade from the general public. Many newsagents, estate agents and travel agents use pavement signs to show their latest offers or best deals.

Top 5 Questions Asked Before Starting Driving Lessons

March 27th, 2009

When you wish to start learning to drive in the UK, you are bound to have a lot of questions. Here are the top 5 questions new learner drivers tend to ask.

1. What do I need to do before I can start driving?
You must have a Provisional driving Licence. You can obtain this by completing the driving licence application form D1 and photo card application form D750 which are available from most post offices.

2. How often should I have my driving lessons?
As often as you can afford if you wish to pass the driving test quickly. It is recommended though that you have at least 1 session of 1.5 hours per week of regular training. Driving instructors will structure your driving lessons to suit your individual needs. This can often depend on what time you have available and how often you can afford to take lessons.

3. What is the cheapest way of booking my driving lessons?
You can reduce the cost of learning to drive by taking advantage of block booking discounts which most driving schools will offer. Paying for each individual lesson is the most expensive way to learn to drive.  You can often obtain discounts by paying for as little as five lessons in advance there are many driving schools that offer this.

4. How many driving lessons will I need to take?
Every driver is different and will learn at a different pace. The DSA (Driving Standards Agency) mention that those who have passed their driving test have had an average of 45 hours professional tuition and 22 hours of private practice. Your driving instructor should use the DSA driver record so that you can see your strengths & weaknesses and monitor your progress.

5. Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons?
Not at all. In fact it is a good idea to learn the theory whilst you are learning the practical side of driving as it can bring the subject alive making it easier to understand and remember. Also, remember that the theory training will help your practical driving and the practical driving will help your theory training.

You can find answers to many more questions you may have or even ask questions at the Driving Knowledge Base / FAQs.
