Where To Use Your Oriental Carpet

December 31st, 2008

A Persian Oriental rug can be used for various purposes - ranging from the traditional floor covering, to bed coverings, wall hangings, table coverings or even purely as an investment.

Where the rug is used will to a large extent determine its lifetime since a rug used for floor covering in a heavy traffic area will obviously be subjected to more wear and tear than a rug that is used as a wall hanging.

Let’s see where your Oriental rug can be used in the home

1. Covering your floor with your oriental carpet

The floor is obviously the most common place to use your rug, but you have to make sure that you choose the right rug for the right place. Where there is a lot of foot traffic involved it would be better to choose a rug with a heavier pile. The size of the rug is also important. When a rug is bought to be used on the floor, it is not intended to cover the full floor but to be used as an ornament where the floor forms a frame around the rug so make sure that at least a couple of inches, if not a feet or two, is showing around the carpet.

Rugs on the floor can be used in hallways, where they form a colorful welcome to owners as well as guests. A ground floor hall rug receives a lot of traffic and should therefore be selected for durability. Research and experience has shown that a rug such as Hamadan, a Meshkin or Ardebil should last well. Rugs in hallways should be turned regularly and cleaned regularly.

Stair rugs must also be chosen carefully since they also receive a lot of traffic. Stair rugs must be fastened securely in place - but never use glue or nails to keep the rug in position! This will ruin the rug and devalue it immediately. Rather use something such as wooden or metal stair rods.

2. Rugs as wall hangings

Persian Rugs and Carpets are often used as display pieces hanging on a wall. If a rug is too heavy though, it should rather not be used as wall hanging since its weight might strain the weave. Old rugs (antique rugs) that have seen a lot of wear can be used for wall hangings, as well as rugs such as pictorial rugs and silk rugs which display well in reflected light. Silk rugs such as Qum, Ishafan and Tabriz will work well as wall hangings.

3. Rugs as bed or table covers

Flat-weave kilims would work well for this purpose, as well as smaller antique rugs with a thinner pile. Remember that if an Oriental carpet is used as a table covering, if heavy ornaments are placed on it, it might crush the weave and the ornament should be moved regularly so as not to leave a permanent indentation. Floral vases can also be dangerous due to water leakage and spillage.

Van Insurance - What Does a Good Van Insurance Include

December 30th, 2008

When you’re searching for a good van quote you might want to include some added benefits to your policy. They are many different policy types to choose from but most UK companies not only the basic kind of cover.

These add-ons can include…

Contents of Van Insurance

To have your tools covered as part of your van cover is a good thing to have. Paying for it can sometimes feel like you’re paying an added benefit you don’t need but when something does happen like a break-in, you’ll wish you were covered.

Its total peace of mind to have this cover, tools and other equipment can be costly and having to replace them again with your own money can be very damaging. Break-ins do happen and they happen often so think about this valuable add-on when you renew your van insurance policy.

Public Liability Insurance

You can buy Public Liability Insurance separate from your van insurance policy but it may be a bit cheaper if to buy them together from one insurance company. If you deal with the public your insurance company will advise you to take this cover out as court expenses can add up if a member of the public takes your company to court.

Goods in Transit Insurance

For companies that carry other people’s goods like couriers and haulers, Goods in Transit Insurance covers all your customer goods for theft and damages.  This cover can also be added to your van insurance policy or a separate insurance policy can be taken out with your currant insurer or a different insurance company, it’s totally up you which way you do it when you compare van quotes.

How Fleas Might Elicit More Health Problems in Kitties

December 29th, 2008

If you have seen your kitty scratching a good deal lately or think you may be experiencing a flea problem be sure you are mindful of the secondary problems fleas can cause. Unfortunately fleas sometimes come with additional cat health problems.

Cats can be allergic to fleas and they may have an allergic reaction or suffer from allergic dermatitis. Fleas may also be a carrier feline worms — specifically feline tapeworm — so a flea infestation can also cause a tapeworm infestation.

Once you discover your cat has fleas the first objective is getting rid of them. Once you’ve treated for fleas you can treat any other cat health problems the fleas might have produced.

Treating fleas effectively includes treating your cat, treating your home and treating outdoor area where your kitty spends time. Because it involves so many areas you’ll want to study all the available treatments. If you have kids, if your pets have problems with traditional flea treatments or if you dislike like using pesticides it might be a good idea to consider a natural flea control for your cat.

One of the most common and versatile natural flea treatments is diaomaceous earth, a natural powder that dehydrates and kills fleas. Diatomaceous earth can even be used directly on your pets, plus you can sprinkle it into the carpet, around baseboards in your pet’s bedding etc.

If you’re looking for a more traditional method one of the simplest to use is the once a month topical, which is placed on your cat’s back between the shoulder blades where she can’t lick it. In addition you will also need to treat your house with a flea treatment like a flea bomb or flea spray.

The other way to start eliminating fleas right away is to vacuum every day and discard the vacuum bag. Vacuum both the carpet and furniture and anywhere your cat may spend a lot of time in the home.

Always be sure to read and follow directions carefully when using flea treatments because they often contain ingredients that may be bad for pets and people when not practiced appropriately.

Some benefits of roofing tiles for house building

December 28th, 2008

Very few people ever give much thought to their roof until a problem of some kind develops and a repair is required. The idiom keeping a roof over your head is a part of our language, though fortunately not many people in our country actually ever experience living without a good solid roof.

Roof tiles are possibly the longest lasting roof building material ever used. There are several examples throughout the world of tiled roofs lasting for hundreds of years. Despite this durability roof tiles can easily become damaged by wind damage, cracking, spalling or shattering. Most tile roofing will need occasional maintenance from time to time. A leaky roof might not become noticable in the living area for quite some time, however a small amount of water leaking through broken tiles onto timbers can cause rot to start developing. These problems need to be spotted early to avoid more serious problems later on. The best way to prevent serious problems from developing is to give your roof the occasional visual inspection for damage. It is suprising how few homeowners ever take time out to look at their roof until a problem has actually developed.

If you are embarking on a construction project and you are undecided on the roofing solution, then a tiled roof must be considered. If you require an attractive and long lasting roof for your house then roof tiles are the way go in my considered opinion. A beautifully tiled roof can be a work of art or it can be just plain and fuctional. Few roofing solutions are as pleasing on the eye as a beautifully tiled roof.

A roof tiled in attractive clay or slate tiles can also improve the resale value of your property because the kerbside appeal will rise if a beautiful, long lasting tiled roof has been installed. The most common roof tiles in use today are clay tiles, slate tiles and concrete tiles. The majority of buildings look good with slate roofing tiles or clay tiled roofs. Concrete tiles are usually the most cost effective and most basic tiled roofing solution. Concrete roof tiles are however widely recognised as the least desirable of the roof tile options though there are still numerous good looking concrete tiles available.
