Do You Need A Lot Of Bandwidth?

August 28th, 2008

Bandwidth measures the volume of data transmitted over an internet connection. You have to know how much bandwidth you need while choosing hosting plans.

Be careful when someone claims they provide unlimited bandwidth or monthly transfer. Anyone claiming "Unlimited Bandwidth" is simply lying. There's no such thing as "Unlimited Bandwidth".

I?ve never seen any broadband company offering an internet connection as "Unlimited Megabytes per Second." So, how could a web hosting company, which normally doesn't even own its own access lines, claims to customers that it will give them "Unlimited Bandwidth"?

Most of the time, high bandwidth sites on these "Unlimited" plans will be disconnected, and no refund given. Normally, the web hosting company will say that the site violated its Acceptable Use Policy or Terms of Service.

Whenever you visit a site promoting "Unlimited Bandwidth" as one of the account features, be sure to visit the Acceptable Use Policy, or the Terms of Service. Read the fine text about the so-called "Unlimited" disclaimer.

When you first look for web hosting services (those who state clearly bandwidth offered), you have to make your best estimation and watch your usage carefully in the first few months. Take these factors into consideration while estimating.

**How many users will access your web site?

**How many pages to be access?

**How big are the graphic and HTML files?

Large audio/video files, computer programs, and file downloads require more bandwidth. Flash web sites use tons of bandwidth. Virtual Reality (VR) and full-length three-dimensional audio/visual presentations require the most bandwidth of all.

Though it is not accurate, but still gives you something to work with until your site has been online for a while and actual traffic statistics have been generated.

Don?t fall for the unlimited bandwidth trap that some companies throw at you.

Home security monitoring makes your property safer

August 28th, 2008

A home security monitoring company charges a monthly fee to monitor any breach in security at a customer?s home. The monitoring is done by trained staff which uses sophisticated equipment to keep track of what is happening at a customer?s home.

The staff sits at a central monitoring station which is connected to a customer?s home by a telephone line. The staff monitors all security signals emanating from the control panel installed in a safe place in the customer?s home. When the control panel, which works like the brains of a home security system, receives a signal from a sensor or a magnetic switch of a break in it immediately alerts the central monitoring station. This it does by using an automated dialing system.

The central monitoring station, in turn, instantly calls the customer?s home. The caller first checks for the customer?s password. If the password is wrong or if the call is not answered the caller alerts the area police. The caller then locates the stand by numbers given by the customer and informs him of the alarm. The alarm, however, is switched off if the house owner provides the right password.

A central monitoring station is required to notify the authorities within 45 seconds, if an alarm goes off. This is a tricky job because a false alarm will unnecessarily send the police racing to a customer?s house, and disturb the neighbors. The employee therefore is required to take a measured decision before alerting the police.

Large security monitoring companies have their own central stations, while smaller ones often use the services of third-party home security monitoring companies. These monitoring centers comply with the high standards set by the non-profit, independent Underwriters? Laboratory. That is why their charges also are higher.

Sometimes the alarm goes off because the house owner trips the security system by mistake. He can, of course, correct the mistake by entering the password and switching off the alarm. However, the time available to do so is only 30 to 45 seconds.

Several security companies insist on a cell phone backup to filter out false alarms. This is because the control panel will alert the central monitoring station if the regular phone line is not working. The security center will first call up the key holder to check. The authorities will only be notified if it is found that someone has tampered with the phone line.

Your Dog’s Health is in Your Hands - Learn How to Spot the Warning Signs

August 27th, 2008

Owning a dog can be a truly rewarding experience if you take the time to educate yourself on the proper care of dogs. There are two main areas of focus when examining dog health, disease preventative care and recognizing signs of potential problems.

Preventative medicine is paramount in effective dog care. At six weeks old puppies should begin a series of four DHLPP/CCV vaccinations three or four weeks apart. Puppies should be de-wormed often and started on heartworm preventative at four months old. This program should be maintained indefinitely. An annual visit to a local veterinarian is necessary to maintain your dog?s health. In addition to administering vaccinations, the vet will examine the dog?s teeth and stool, and look for any obvious maladies.

What kind of dog health problems should I be on the look out for?

It is also important for new pet owners to be able to recognize signs of potential dog health problems. Skin problems are common and present themselves in various ways. Skin allergies are common in many dogs and can cause hair loss and ?hot spots?. ?Hot spots? are sores on the skin surface that ooze. They are very painful and hard to deal with because of the dog?s constant licking. The skin allergies that cause ?hot spots? are often mistaken for flea infestation problems; an easy way to tell the difference is by watching the dog.

Chewing the top of his rump is a good indication of fleas, while scratching his head, neck and front legs indicate allergies. Signs of potential health problems also present themselves in the dogs stool. If the stool appears runny or discolored you may need to visit the vet. Parasites or a change in diet are usually the culprit and most often easily remedied. Another less common but very serious threat to your dog?s health is Gastric Dilatation Volvulus. Large, deep crested dogs are predisposed for this condition which causes their stomachs to flip if they exert themselves after ingesting large amounts of water.

Your dog?s health should not to be taken lightly. It is a huge responsibility you have chosen to bear, but it doesn?t have to be hard. Just make sure you take him for his annual check up and be attentive to imminent health problem. If you follow your veterinarian?s advice your dog should have a happy, healthy, and long life.
